Picking the five best MLB Player’s Weekend nicknames from the Arizona Diamondbacks’ roster.

Between August 24th and August 26th, the MLB will have their second annual MLB Player’s Weekend. The event, developed in association with the MLBPA to display the creativity and personality of the league’s players, allows uniforms to feature nicknames instead of regular surnames. In addition, the jerseys are also more bright and colorful than normal. Valspar, a midwestern paint company, is the presenting sponsor.

Our squad, the Arizona Diamondbacks, will host the Seattle Mariners during MLB Player’s Weekend.

Here, we’ll break down the best nicknames chosen by the D-Backs.

No. 1: Brad Boxberger, RP
Nickname: 🎁🍔

How cool is that? Brad Boxberger will make MLB history with his all-emoji jersey during MLB Player’s Weekend. Speaking with MLB.com, he said that he “kind of wanted to do it last year but never got it approved in time”.

No. 2: Jarrod Dyson, OF
Nickname: ZOOMBIYA

If Boxberger wasn’t making history, this would definitely be my favorite. Dyson, who also has ZOOMBIYA in his Twitter handle, is just a solid, solid nickname. Unfortunately, Dyson is still sidelined with a groin injury.

No. 3: Jon Jay, OF
Nickname: 305 J

Give Jon Jay some credit for creativity, and for showing his hometown love. Jay is from Miami, Fla., home of the 305 area code.

No. 4: Andrew Chafin, RP
Nickname: THE SHERIFF

This one is awesome because Chafin is using the nickname given to him by Fox Sports Arizona announcer Steve Berthiaume.

No. 5: Robbie Ray, SP
Nickname: BOB

Simple? Yes, but that’s the whole point. Leave it to Robbie Ray to deliver some dead-pan humor on his MLB Player’s Weekend uniform.
