Series Preview: Seattle Mariners at Arizona Diamondbacks (8/24-8/26)
The Arizona Diamondbacks will host the Seattle Mariners for a three-game series at Chase Field.
In their last seven games, the Arizona Diamondbacks have been on absolute fire. They’ve gone 6-1 over this stretch, doing so with early runs, great pitching, and solid management from Torey Lovullo.
Now, after sweeping the Los Angeles Angels in their two-game series, the D-Backs will host the Seattle Mariners in a three-game series. Besides being a matchup of two potential playoff teams, it’ll also be a matchup of the two franchises who completed a blockbuster trade a few years ago.

Old Friends:
- This game will be a reunion for several players with their old teams. Seattle’s Mitch Haniger and Jean Segura were part of the monster 2016 trade that brought Ketel Marte and Taijuan Walker to Arizona. Haniger, who hit just .229 in his only season with the D-Backs, made his first All-Star Game this year and has hit .279 in his two seasons with the Mariners. Segura, who led the league in hits during his only season in Arizona, also made the All-Star Game this year and has hit over .300 in both seasons in Seattle. With all that said, I’m still happy to have Marte in the Valley.
Stat Nerds:
- As of August 24th, Ketel Marte is the only MLB player with at least 10 singles, doubles, triples, and home runs in 2018.
- With a home run in Arizona’s last game, Paul Goldschmidt is now the all-time leader in dingers at Chase Field (96).
- Goldie has also reached base safely in 27 straight games and has a 14-game hitting streak going.
- John Ryan Murphy recorded his first hit in over five weeks during Game 1 of their series against the Angels.
Fun Stuff:
- Arizona heads into the series with a one-game lead over the Rockies for first place in the NL West.
- Chase Field will have postgame fireworks after Friday’s contest.
