We Can’t Get Too High on Arizona’s Defense Yet

Yes, Arizona’s defense played great on Sunday and forced a lot of turnovers. Specifically, Patrick Peterson played great on Sunday and forced a lot of turnovers. However, as much as I want to say that they are a great defense right now, it’s still hard to say.

And the reason I say that is because the Arizona Cardinals haven’t faced a team’s No.1 quarterback yet. Against the Chargers? No Philip Rivers. Against the Saints? No Drew Brees. And finally, against the Cowboys? No Dak Prescott.

Could they be one of the reasons that Arizona is a surprise team in 2018? I think they can be, especially if their stars (Peterson and Chandler Jones) have All-Pro seasons and there are some breakout performances. After all, Sports Illustrated has their front seven ranked No. 11 out of 32 teams and well, their secondary has PP.

Cap Capi, who has like a million sacks this preseason, gives me a lot of hope that there will be some breakouts — it’s just a matter of preseason performance transferring into the regular season. It’s a whole different world when games actually mean something. Right now, they don’t, and the Cards haven’t faced a first-team offense yet.

Arizona’s defense definitely could be an asset but we can’t get crazy about their preseason performance.
