Arizona State Football: 3 Takeaways From Sun Devils Blowout Win
Terrell Chatman Deserved the Spotlight
Having already talked about the greatness of N’Keal Harry, you would assume that he attracts a lot of attention from opposing defense. Well, he certainly does.
Luckily, Manny Wilkins has other options that he’s building chemistry with. Most of them, however, haven’t received big-time action in their careers at Arizona State. Outside of Harry and Kyle Williams, the four receivers who got playing time on Saturday all had single-digit reception totals going into Saturday.
Junior Terrell Chatman, a Top 30 WR prospect out of high school, had just one reception coming into Saturday — the fewest in the group — but made two plays that resulted in ASU touchdowns.
Up 21-0 late in the second quarter, Chatman reeled an 11-yard touchdown pass from Manny Wilkins for his second career reception.
Later on, the redshirt junior sprung N’Keal Harry free with a beautiful downfield block for another score.
With all the waiting he’s done, you’ve gotta be happy how things worked out on Saturday. He’s not undersized or flawed, instead he was a 6-foot-4 beast caught on the wrong side of a numbers game. Playing time was hard to come by under Todd Graham but with Herm in town, he’s carving out a niche and looking like a potential starter.
Arizona State will now play Michigan State at home on September 8th at 10:45 P.M ET. The Spartans barely squeaked by Utah State in their opening game, winning 38-31.
