Arizona Diamondbacks Playoff Odds Dwindling as Losses Mount
The Arizona Diamondbacks have struggled recently and now have slim playoff odds, per FanGraphs.
Ever since the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first game of their series on August 30th, the team has picked up just one victory while dropping five games. Four of the five losses, unfortunately, were by a single run. Now, the team has fallen into third place in the NL West race, behind the Colorado Rockies (2.5 GB) and Dodgers (1.5 GB). In turn, their chances of making the postseason have dropped significantly.

Per FanGraphs, the Arizona Diamondbacks have just an 18.4-percent chance of making the playoffs (as of September 7th). Furthermore, their chances of winning the NL West sits at 7.9 percent while their chances of picking up an NL Wild Card spot lies at 10.5 percent, per FanGraphs. And for those with World Series hopes, the same report has the D-Backs with a 0.8-percent chance of winning the 2018 World Series.
Judging from how the team has played recently, combined with their upcoming schedule, it’s hard to argue with FanGraphs’ numbers. The Diamondbacks have had an incredibly tough time pulling out wins in late innings and their future opponents are almost exclusively made up of very good baseball teams.
After their series against the first-place Atlanta Braves, the team will have to play the first-place Rockies seven times, and the Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros three times apiece. The only reprieve for Arizona is their final series of 2018 when they play three games in San Diego against the last-place Padres.
Arizona will play the Braves at 9:40 P.M ET on September 7th at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.
