(#2) Bullpen Troubles

Recently, Heat Waved reported on the disastrous September that Brad Boxberger has had. Boxberger, a former All-Star who was very reliable up until September, has an 18.90 ERA since the end of August while allowing opposing hitters to hit .438 against him. He’s also walked as many batters this month (5) as he did in August, except in September he did it in five fewer innings.

Unfortunately, he’s not the only arm out of the bullpen that’s struggled for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Besides Brad Boxberger, several other have made September their worst month of the season.

The normally dynamic Archie Bradley has struggled mightily this month, complete with season-worst marks in ERA (11.25) and BAA (.478).

Jake Diekman has also been atrocious this month, as has Matt Andriese. Like Bradley and Boxberger, both of their ERA’s and BAA’s are worse this month than any other month in 2018.

In addition to the four bullpen arms mentioned above, Andrew Chafin has a 9.82 ERA in eight September relief appearances.

Brad Ziegler is one of the few bullpen arms to flourish this month, posting a 0.00 ERA in eight appearances.

Arizona’s team ERA for September (5.63) is the worst of any month in 2018.
