Arizona State Football: Catching Up On Former Sun Devils in the NFL
Taking a peek at how former Arizona State football players are doing in the NFL.
Of the three major football teams in Arizona, only the Arizona State Sun Devils are what you’d call promising. They’ve beaten a ranked Michigan State team and are a blown call away from an undefeated record. With that, folks are starting to get really excited about their future under Herm Edwards. And while I’m absolutely in that camp, I want to take a peek into their past by checking in on the former Arizona State football players in the NFL.

Per ESPN, the Sun Devils have 12 players currently in the NFL. Some, like Terrell Suggs, are household names nationally; others, like D.J. Foster, are mostly unknown to the football-loving world. It should be noted that Arizona State also has an outlier with Brock Osweiler: he’s known nationally, but largely as a punchline. Additionally, former Lou Groza Award-winning kicker Zane Gonzalez was just released by the Browns after missing a bunch of kicks and getting called out by LeBron James.
Miami, for the record, employs three former Arizona State football players.
Nevertheless, we’ll see what former ASU guys are up to in the NFL since leaving Tempe, and how they’re performing in 2018.

Kalen Ballage, Miami Dolphins (R)
Ballage, who once scored eight touchdowns in a game for Arizona State, was drafted in the fourth round by the Miami Dolphins in the 2018 NFL Draft. Despite being on their 53-man roster, he hasn’t played in their first two games and is currently dealing with concussion-like symptoms.
Interesting footnote: Ballage and Osweiler are on the same team (photo above) and played a lot together in the preseason.
