Speaking on ESPN’s “The Jump,” Joel Embiid had some interesting thoughts on Phoenix Suns rookie Deandre Ayton.

These days, the off-court stuff in the NBA has made the league relevant all year long. Whether it be quotes from players or the constant flow of rumors, the NBA is truly a 12-month sport now. One guy who can always be counted on to keep things interesting during normally dull times is Joel Embiid, the star center from the Philadelphia 76ers. On Friday, Embiid kept true to form by spouting off some interesting thoughts on ESPN’s The Jump.

His target: Phoenix Suns rookie center Deandre Ayton.

Embiid, who has already trolled Ayton on Twitter because of their comparisons, told Rachel Nichols and Stephen Jackson on The Jump that Ayton “is about to get his a** kicked” this year. He added that Ayton is “going to be good” but clarified why he thinks they shouldn’t be compared.

Per ESPN:

"“But when you talk about ‘He looks like Joel Embiid,’ I play on both sides of the court. I think I’m a good offensive player, good defensive player. I do it on both ends of the floor. I watched him play and he’s got a lot of work to do. But he’s got a lot of potential. He’s going to be really good.”"

While it’s nice to know that Embiid thinks the former Arizona Wildcat can be good, I hope Ayton goes out and proves him wrong on the defensive end.

Luckily, fans of the Phoenix Suns won’t have to wait too long to see the pair of seven-footers go up against one another. On November 19th, the Philadelphia 76ers will host Phoenix in a nationally televised game on NBA TV at 7:00 P.M ET. If you haven’t done it already, circle your calendars.
