ESPN projects the Arizona State football team to make a bowl game in Arizona.

After the fifth week of college football, ESPN did a complete projection of 2018’s bowl season. ESPN writers Kyle Bonagura and Mitch Sherman each picked every bowl game, with the Arizona State football team finding its way on both lists and the Arizona Wildcats missing out on both.

The bowls that the writers have the Sun Devils pegged for are the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl on December 15th vs. Boise State (Bonagura) and the Cheez-It Bowl on December 26th vs. Nevada (Sherman).

It should be noted that the Cheez-It Bowl used to be called the Cactus Bowl (which Arizona State played in back in 2016).

History tells us that the Cheez-It Bowl is more prominent. Not only does the winner get a bigger payout but in the last five years, nine of the 10 participants have been Power-5 programs. The Las Vegas Bowl, on the other hand, has had just four.

Arizona State, now 3-2 on the season, will hopefully build on their latest win against Oregon State and reach a much bigger bowl game. With that said, the Cheez-It Bowl would be pretty cool because it’s one of two bowl games to be played in a baseball stadium. The stadium? Chase Field in Phoenix — how cool would that be?

Next week, the Arizona State football program will have a huge test on the road against a nationally ranked Colorado team. If they win, I don’t know if they’ll jump back into the Top 25 but I know they’ll get some votes.
