3 Takeaways From Suns Opening Night Win (cont’d)

Devin Booker the PG

Although Isaiah Canaan was given the start at point guard Wednesday night, when it came down to crunch time in the fourth quarter it was Devin Booker handling the PG duties.

This was something many Suns fans were expecting to happen due to the team’s current collection point guards. Though serviceable, the group is largely unproven and in my opinion, not at the level needed to close out games.

With that said, Booker had the ball in his hands down the stretch and he was brilliant. Whether it be creating his own shot (which he did) or setting up others (which he did), Booker the point guard is really something to watch and another reason fans can be hopeful.

In the fourth quarter alone, Booker had 19 points and capped things off with an assist to Ayton for Phoenix’s final bucket.

Until this team addresses the need for a quality starting point guard it would make sense for Booker to take on the floor general duties with either Jackson, Warren, or even Crawford coming on to provide more scoring options.
