2014 Bowl Projections: Arizona Wildcats To Holiday Bowl

An early projection by college football prognosticator Phil Steele has the Arizona Wildcats receiving a bid to play in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego on December 27th.

The Holiday Bowl pits the PAC 12 against a Big Ten opponent.  For this game that opponent is projected to be the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Hawkeyes have had an up and down season but have built themselves a 7-3 record with two games to play.  Their 4-2 big Ten record is good enough for sixth in the conference. Not really the marquis bowl match-up the Wildcats are looking for.

More from Arizona Wildcats

There is a lot of football to be played yet so if fans of the Arizona Wildcats are disappointed with their draw they shouldn’t be discouraged. The Wildcats could possibly play themselves into a better bowl game by beating in-state rival Arizona State Sun Devils in the season finale.

A victory over the Sun Devils could bump the Arizona Wildcats up to the Alamo Bowl on January 2nd.  The Alamo Bowl website already has Arizona featured as a potential opponent for the Oklahoma Sooners.

But in order to do that the Wildcats will have to win the rest of their games.  That will be a tough task with a clash with the Arizona State Sun Devils on the horizon.

Let’s be clear these are early projections by one of college football’s most knowledgeable gurus. There are many factors that could influence bowl selection committees moving forward including a potential loss by Oregon in the PAC 12 Championship game.

The only thing the Wildcats can control is winning their last two games.  The results of which will most likely determine the size of their payday during bowl season.
