As the first-half of the major league season begins to wind down, the Arizona Diamondbacks (35-37) head to San Diego to take on the Padres (35-40) in what will be San Diego’s last home weekend series before the All-Star Break.

The D-backs remain in third place in the NL West. They are five games behind the first place Los Angeles Dodgers and four games behind the second place San Francisco Giants.

The D-backs also maintain a game-and-a-half lead over the Padres who are holding down fourth place, 6 1/2 games back of Los Angeles.

Arizona looks to turn the page in San Diego after dropping 2 out of 3 games against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field earlier this week.

The Padres, meanwhile, only have five more games at home before the All-Star Break. Three of those games will be against the D-backs. The Padres and D-backs have split the 10 games they have played so far this season.

In fact, these two teams met up last weekend in Arizona and the D-backs took 2 out of 3 games in that series at Chase Field.

Tyson Ross, who started for San Diego in their only win last weekend, will get the start in the opener on Friday. After his terrific outing on June 20th, he’s definitely one of the few players to keep your eyes on over the weekend.
