Isaiah Thomas And The Phoenix Suns Bench Should Get More Time
By Omar Soussi
The Phoenix Suns beat the Brookyln Nets last night after big games by Gerald Green (28 points) and Isaiah Thomas (17 points). These two players helped get the Phoenix Suns overcome a 19 point deficit to win.
This isn’t the first time the bench has been a huge factor for this team. Isaiah Thomas came to play against the Spurs when he put up 23. And when the Warriors came to play, so did Thomas, putting up 22 points and 7 assists. When head coach Jeff Hornacek has his rotation down, this team plays great basketball and is capable of beating anyone. But when they don’t they lose to the likes of Utah.

With the talent around this team I feel like it can compete for a playoff spot. What I want from them is to give Thomas and the bench players more time. Isaiah Thomas got a 4 year ,$27 million contract to come here so the Phoenix Suns might as well get their monies worth. Their other bench players are solid, particularly Green and Len.
We saw the Spurs win the NBA championship with great all around play from their bench and their starters. I think giving Isaiah Thomas more time in the big games, where he has produced a lot, would help keep the winning going. I’m not going to suggest replacing Dragic or Bledsoe, just give him more than 22 minutes. The Phoenix Suns may also benefit from giving more time to their other bench players as well. Not to the point where you’re keeping them in longer than your starters but enough to change the tempo, give your starters some rest and to keep the opponents guessing.
I can understand that Dragic and the others might not like the idea of losing time but when they’re winning games, I don’t think they would mind it at all. This franchise doesn’t have that huge star that can put up 45 points, 15 assists and 8 rebounds. What they do have is a solid squad and when they work together everyone will get their share of points, rebounds, assists and steals.
One of the biggest reasons a team fails to win championships in the NBA is having a weak bench. The Phoenix Suns in my mind have one of the best benches in the league and they should get more time.
