The Phoenix Suns Have Back Court Decisions To Make
By Omar Soussi
The Phoenix Suns have started off the season 7-5 and in third place in the Pacific division. However, they have lost some games they should have won and the team really isn’t sure what to do with their rotations. This really goes to the three point guards they have on their team that are worthy of starting on most teams and the rookie Tyler Ennis they drafted with their 18th pick. Unless they can get their rotation down perfectly (and I’m not even sure of that either), the Suns will probably get rid of one the guards next season or even this season before the trading deadline.
I know there hasn’t been anything from the player’s camp demanding more playing time, a demand to get traded or bad talk between players. My belief is that Dragic is too unselfish to make a scene about it. Bledsoe and Thomas got their money so at this point, they won’t say a word to ruin team chemistry. Ennis is a rookie, he has nothing to say because he doesn’t want to get shipped off to a bad team. This is just my opinion on what I think will happen. It’s a bit of a stretch especially if they enter the All Star game with a great control of their playoff destiny. If that happen they won’t change anything until the end of the season.

When they do finish the season, the Suns will have to decide whether three point guard is enough. If they do will they send one of the four they have off? I say yes.
You can only have a point guard play so many positions, the point and the shooting guard. The 4 point guards won’t really be that much help if they played the power or small forward or even the center. They already at this point got Dragic playing point while Bledsoe plays shooting guard with Thomas and Ennis on the bench.
Ennis hasn’t seen really anytime off the bench, playing two games and only scoring two points. They all have kind of have the same stats, a stat that really stands out is the fact that none of the point guards have above 6 assist per game (Bledsoe has the most with 5.4 per game). I personally want my point guard being the facilitator on the team, the one who opens plays up for everyone else. Dragic out of the three has only 3.3 per game, which is something I really don’t like. He may score more than the two other point guards, but like I said, the PG needs to get the other players into the mix.
Also they’re all at the same amount of points as well with 14 being where all three hit (Dragic is at 15.3). They need to either make the scoring a lot higher or make the assist number a lot higher. Now, this is only 12 games in and I could be overthinking this whole situation and they could figure this whole thing out but I rather just speculate this scenario and think what will happen.
If I was a betting man, I would bet that Dragic would be the man left out of the mix. I say this because they just signed both Bledsoe and Thomas to long term deals this year (Bledsoe got 5 years 70 million, Isaiah got 4 years 27 million). Though Dragic got a new deal, he got in the 2012 – 2013 season. He is the oldest (28) and the has the most wear on him. I like Dragic but when you have to decide who has to go, he is most likely on top.
Like I’ve been saying most of this story, this is a big topic to think of with 12 games being played but I’ve been curious about this whole scenario since the Suns signed Bledsoe to that huge deal. It will be interesting to see how they deal with this situation though out the rest of this season.
