Brandon Knight Has Successful Ankle Surgery
Just a few days after the end of the NBA regular season, players on teams which didn’t make the postseason aren’t wasting any time getting ready for next season, that includes getting healthy.
Suns point guard Brandon Knight underwent successful surgery on his left ankle Friday, according to a release on NBA.com. He’s expected to make a full recovery and be ready for training camp in October.

Acquired by Phoenix in a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 19, Knight managed to play only 11 games with the Suns. In those 11 games, the 23-year-old averaged 13.4 points, 4.5 assists and 2.1 rebounds.
Before he became a member of the Suns, Knight was a legitimate All-Star candidate in Milwaukee. The former Kentucky Wildcat was posting career highs in assists, rebounds, steals and shooting percentage before the trade.
Knight will be an unrestricted free agent come this summer. The Suns own his rights, meaning they can match any offer that a team gives him.
There should be plenty of teams interested in adding Knight to their roster being that he’s only 23 years old and when healthy, he’s one of the better guards in the league when you take account what he does on both ends of the floor.

Being that he was only in Phoenix for a total of 11 games, where for the most part he struggled, Suns general manager Ryan McDonough is going to have a tough decision to make this offseason.
It would be a really bad PR move to let Knight go for absolutely nothing. They mortgaged a lot in order to get Knight and not bringing him back would send a bad message to a fan base that hasn’t seen this team in the postseason for five years now.
At the same time, McDonough has no clue if Knight and Eric Bledsoe are going to work well with one another. 11 games is just too small of a sample size for McDonough to make a firm decision on that.
Plus, do you want to invest close to $30 million a season on your two starting guards when you are unsure if they can play together? That’s a big gamble to make.
I’m just glad that McDonough is making this decision and not me. Whatever his decision ends up being, at least Knight will be 100 percent healthy for the start of the season.
