Devin Lucien Is A Nice Addition For ASU Football

Late April is usually a quiet time for college football, but that’s not the case with Todd Graham and his ASU Football program.

Earlier this week, receiver Devin Lucien, former of the UCLA Bruins, announced he was transferring to ASU. He signed his athletics grant-in paperwork on Tuesday.

Being that he is a graduate student, Lucien will be able to play for the Sun Devils right off the bat where he’ll have a year of eligibility. If he were an undergrad, he would have had to sit out a year.

Lucien comes to Tempe thanks in large part to his relationship with quarterback Mike Bercovici, who will be taking over the starting role from the departed Taylor Kelly.

"“Mike’s a heck of quarterback, so I’m sure his relationship there probably had something to do with it,” Graham said."

During his three years in Westwood, Lucien didn’t put up great numbers. His best year came during his senior season where the 200-pounder had 29 catches for 225 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Lucien’s numbers with the Bruins won’t blow anyone away, but this is  a nice pick-up for this program. With the departed Jaelen Strong and the injured Cameron Smith, who will miss the entire 2015 season, the Devils were in desperate need of a veteran at the receiver position.

With his speed, Lucien should help spread the field and take the pressure of senior D.J. Foster, who is moving over to receiver from his role at running back.

"“Playing against him, he had great speed and ability to stretch the field vertically,” Graham said. “We think he fits our system very well. We’ll just see how he fits in. We’re excited about having him.”"

We’ll find out in due time how the Lucien addition turns out. For now, it seems like a quality pick-up for a roster needing help at receiver.
