Game 1:

The big story from the opening game of the series was the outstanding performance on the mound by Robbie Ray. Ray commanded the mound for seven innings, only allowing four base runners (two hits, two walks).

Ray tossed a solid game and the Diamondback offense provided him with plenty of runs to back him up. Paul Goldschmidt kept his bat scorching hot by hitting a three run homer in the third inning that allowed the D-Backs to strike first.

Yasmany Tomas added a home run of his own in the sixth inning to make the score, 5-0.

The Arizona bullpen encountered some troubles in the eighth inning allowing three runs which included a two run double by Angels star outfielder, Mike Trout. LA cut the lead to 5-3 going to the ninth.

Despite the troubles, the D-Backs were able to seal the deal. RBI’s by Cliff Pennington and A.J. Pollock gave Arizona a few more insurance runs in the top frame of the ninth.

Addison Reed closed the game out for the Diamondbacks and recorded his third save of the season in the process.

Final score: D-Backs 7, Angels 3
