The Phoenix Suns took Devin Booker from Kentucky with the 13th pick in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft. He is a tremendous shooter at the three point line and was a shock when he wasn’t picked in the top ten. Miami and Milwaukee passed on the 6’6 shooting guard which most draft analyst picked him to go there.

Booker is only one of the seven players from Kentucky that was taken in the draft and was the fourth taken from that group. He is an excellent shooter from beyond the arc with a 41% three point percentage. He’s a catch and shoot wing with a nice clean shot.

More from Phoenix Suns

Booker only averaged 10 points at UK working in the platoon squad from John Calipari, but sure showed how he can impact a team. Most critics thought it was not a good idea for him to leave college early and declare for the draft but he had a great showing in team camps and the draft combine.

He comes from a basketball family with his father, Melvin Booker, playing in the NBA for the Rockets and the Warriors for a short stint before going internationally to play. Devin is from Moss Point High School in Moss Point, Mississippi and was the 22nd ranked recruit according to 24/7 Sports in 2014. Being one of the youngest players in the draft still at 18 years old, Booker will have a lot to prove mentally.

He will be joining fellow Wildcats Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, and Archie Goodwin and will make the backcourt of the Suns a monopoly of Big Blue Nation. He will most likely come off the bench at shooting guard, but will get significant playing time while making an impact for Phoenix right away.

The only question is if he can mature and put up points not just from the outside. The Suns just made a great choice to improve their shooting from the three point field. The sky is the limit for Kentucky shooting guard Devin Booker.
