After dropping two-of-three games in a hard-fought series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Arizona Diamondbacks (37-41) turn the page and host the Colorado Rockies (34-44) for a four-game series at Chase Field.
Unlike with the Dodgers, the D-backs have had success against the Rockies this season. Arizona has won five-of-eight games so far in 2015. The last time the Rockies were in Phoenix, the D-backs took the series two-games-to-three, beating Colorado in the final two games back in late April.
The Rockies, who are 10 games under .500, come into the series sitting in last-place in the NL West. They are 10 games behind the first-place Dodgers, three games behind the third-place D-backs.
Here’s an updated look at the NL West race:
1. Dodgers — (45-35)
2. Giants — (42-37) — 2.5 games back
3. D-backs — (37-41) — 7 games back
4. Padres — (37-43) — 8 games back
5. Rockies — (34-44) — 10 games back
The D-backs dropped one game in the standings after losing 2 games to the Dodgers.
The Rockies, meanwhile, dropped two-of-three games against the Oakland Athletics this week after losing two-of-three to the Giants last weekend.
The Rockies and the D-backs last met up a week-and-a-half ago at Coors Field and Colorado managed to win only one game in that three-game series.
For the D-backs, this will be the final series at home before the All-Star Break. They hit the road next week with off-days on Monday and Wednesday before heading to New York to take on the Mets July 10-12.
But before we can think about that, let’s take a look at the pitching match ups that have been announced so far for this weekend.
