The Mets jumped out to a early lead in game three as they were able to get to Rubby De La Rosa in the second and third innings. De La Rosa only pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits. He also gave up three home runs.

Those three home runs belonged to outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Nieuwenhuis connected on three long balls in his first three at-bats and drove in four of the Mets’ five runs in the game. Daniel Murphy also connected on a home run of his own in the third inning. All five Mets runs were scored via the home run ball, which plagued the D-Backs pitching staff all series long.

Jon Niese was pushed up a day to start in place of the injured Steven Matz, and pitched well for the Mets. Niese pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and earned the win.

The Diamondbacks head into the All-Star Break with a record of 42-45, which has them sitting in 3rd place in the NL West. The D-Backs will return home to take on the San Francisco Giants on Friday July 17 in their first series back from the All-Star Break.
