3 Takeaways From Arizona Cardinals Preseason Game (Week 1)
Mike Glennon’s Fall From Grace
Last year, things couldn’t have been better for Mike Glennon. The former NC State quarterback had just signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Chicago Bears and even threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Chicago Cubs on Opening Day at Wrigley Field. Almost half of his insane deal, $18.5 million, was guaranteed.
Fast forward a few months: Glennon went 1-3 in the Chicago’s first four games and was benched in favor of rookie Mitchell Trubisky. Then, fast forward a few more months: Glennon was released by the Bears in March of 2018.
From there, he was able to get a two-year, $8 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, yet instead of beating out rookie Josh Rosen, Glennon is listed as the team’s No.3 quarterback.
As the No.3 guy, that means a lot of preseason action. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well in Arizona’s first preseason game, like, at all.
Glennon finished with the worst rating among the team’s four quarterbacks, completing his first game with a 0.0 mark. He attempted seven passes, completing two for 11 yards while throwing an ugly interception. Unheralded rookie Chad Kanoff from Princeton severely outplayed him against the same competition, making things pretty grim for Glennon’s potential trade value.
