Alvin Gentry To Replace Tom Thibodeau In Chicago?

We aren’t even through the conference finals of the NBA Playoffs yet and there are already rumblings on what coaches could end up where come next season.

With the Chicago Bulls being eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games just the other day, Tom Thibodeau’s time in the Windy City is coming to an end. It’s only a matter of time before we find out where he ends up next season.

It’s very likely that Thibs is going to replace Monty Williams in New Orleans with the Pelicans, according to a report from FoxSports.com. Williams was let go earlier this week.

Who is going to replace Thibodeau has been speculated upon as well. Earlier in the week, there was a crazy report going around that Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg could be the Bulls top choice to replace Thibodeau with Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek heading to his alma mater to take over for Hoiberg.

Now, the same report that says Thibodeau could be going to the Big Easy also lists former Suns head coach and current assistant with the Golden State Warriors Alvin Gentry to be the frontrunner for the Bulls job.

Although I’m not a huge fan of the Bulls letting go of Thibodeau, replacing him with Gentry would be an excellent decision. Gentry is a very good head coach and I’m frankly a little surprised that it took this long for him to get another head coaching gig.

The organization forcing Gentry to be the scapegoat for the Suns awful 2012-2013 season was flat-out wrong. Replacing him with Lindsay Hunter, who reportedly undermined Gentry when he was on his staff, was also an incredibly bad decision as well.

The roster that season was so bad that Phil Jackson couldn’t even have won with it. It was no indication on Gentry’s coaching ability and it’s good to see that a team is finally recognizing that with giving him another chance to be a head coach.

If these rumors are indeed true, Gentry is going to a very good situation. In the very weak East, the Bulls should once again be one of the best teams in the conference with hopefully a full season of Derrick Rose.

This Suns fan will certainly be rooting for Gentry to have success. He’s a class act who royally got screwed by the Suns organization.

Go get ’em, Coach Al!
